Department for Innate Immunity & Metaflammation

We study the earliest triggers that switch on innate immunity in autoinflammatory and chronic inflammatory diseases. Combining systems-level analysis, experimental biology and human studies, we ask when innate immune processes keep the body in balance and when they drive disease.

Because these mechanisms are shared by many autoimmune and chronic inflammatory conditions, we test them in preclinical models, patient-derived samples and observational clinical studies. The lab has identified new therapeutic targets and founded several biotech companies to develop treatments and preventive approaches.
